To Drayton Public School stakeholders.
Next Tuesday is the school election from 11am to 7pm.
Two board members are up for reelection. Myself and Reid Christensen.
There is also a measure to continue to allow the board to assess an additional 20 mils.
This is not an increase in your taxes. This same measure was passed ten years ago. It is required by century code that it is voted upon again this year. I am asking that you vote yes to this measure.
Ten years ago it was vital to the school that the additional 20 mils was available. When I look back on what was assessed the board did not use or assess the full 20 mils each year. I believe the board has done a good job balancing the budget and being responsible to the taxpayers.
This next year Drayton Public School will NOT receive any federal title dollars. At the first of the year, they estimated a decrease of 66% but we recently were notified that it was cut completely. Some other schools in the area were also cut to zero. This was not due to anything local.
The state funding was increased by 3 % this year and also next. BUT due to changes in the formula and the weighting numbers used in the formula Drayton will receive about $50,000 less this year and next.
This is teacher contract year we have not signed an agreement yet mostly as I feel we need to know how much we have to work with. The state legislature this spring took a long time on the education bill and this is the year we need to vote on the 20 mils at the district level. WE NEED A YES VOTE
Absolutely everything is costing more these days. The teachers and staff do deserve an increase in salary and the board needs to be able to attract good staff.
This measure does NOT increase your taxes. It is only a measure to continue what was already been approved 10 years ago.
I highly recommend a yes vote.
If this measure does not pass I am sure things will get very difficult in the upcoming years for the Drayton School.
If anyone has any questions or comments, please call me.

One other thing to note, please welcome Jason Keating, our new superintendent and high school principal. Mr. Keating is very friendly and looks forward to meeting everyone. Stop in and introduce yourself.
We also have a new elementary principal Jessica Gunderson. Mrs. Gunderson will be around the school later this summer.
I am positive both Mr. Keating and Mrs. Gunderson will be great assets to the school and the Drayton community.
Sincerely
Mark Hatloy
Board President

Day 2 of the North Dakota State FFA Competition! 🐄🌽🎉
Today was packed with excitement and learning as our students competed in several events. We dove into the world of dairy cows, explored how our food is processed from farm to table, and even had time to enjoy some delicious ice cream! 🍦
To wrap up a fun and educational day, we’re heading to the much-anticipated barn dance tonight! 💃🕺
Proud of all the hard work and enthusiasm from our students — keep it up!

Sewing Club will resume in August. Watch this site for further information and dates. If anyone has a large project and would like to work on it over the summer in the classroom, let me know, and we can make arrangements.

The 4-H Club met yesterday evening in the FCS room. A name was chosen, and we can now apply for the club's charter. A meeting schedule was approved; meetings will be on the second Thursday of each month, and the next meeting will be on June 12th at the school from 7-8 pm. A rotation schedule is created to share snacks and crafts among the families. A family handbook will be available at the next meeting so families can become better acquainted with 4-H. Snacks and a small craft were available for attendees. Club officers (president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, & historian) will be voted upon at the June 12th meeting.
We look forward to seeing more kids and families join the club.
If kids or families need more information, please feel free to contact Shelly Quimby at 701-317-1211 or shelly.quimby@dps19.com, or the County Extension Office at kari.l.helgoe@ndsu.edu

Today we helped send off our sixth graders as they made the exciting move to the high school side of Drayton Public School! Students and staff lined the hallways, cheering them on as they took this next step forward. The sixth graders signed out of sixth grade and are ready to take on seventh grade. Ready or not high school teachers, you have another great group of kids coming your way!
