Today we celebrate School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, and we could not be more thankful for Officer Ian and his K9 partner, Freeway! 💙🐾 Although they serve our entire community, they ALWAYS make time for our school! Whether it’s greeting students with a smile, keeping our building safe, or building positive relationships with kids, Ian and Freeway are such an important part of our school family. Thank you, Officer Ian and Freeway, for protecting, serving, and investing in our students every day. We appreciate you more than words can say! 💙🚔🐶 #SROAppreciationDay

📚 January Students of the Month 📚 The Drayton Education Association would like to announce the January DEA Students of the Month. The following students were nominated by Drayton Public School faculty and staff and voted upon by the Drayton Education Association to recognize them for their academic achievements, citizenship, setting a good example, and overall character. The January DEA Students of the Month are as follows: High School- Lana Kalka, Grade 7: Lana was nominated by Mrs. Rarick. Lana is a hard worker and gives her best in all that she does. She is on top of her assignments and does quality work, especially in writing. Lana is always there to help her classmates and gets along well with everyone. She recently stepped out of her comfort zone to participate in the school spelling bee and did awesome. Lana is a great example of hard work and kindness. Elementary- Caleb Rarick, Grade 4: Caleb was nominated by Ms. Logsdon. Caleb has a lot of empathy and a big heart for others. During Spirit Week, Caleb comforted another student who was upset and helped him feel better. He sat beside him and rubbed his back until the other student was okay. Not many kids would notice this at a young age. Caleb is a wonderful example of caring for others.

Two students from Drayton participated in the Pembina County Regional Spelling Bee on Wednesday, February 11. Eighth-graders Rylan Nord and Angelina Carmo competed with other students from Cavalier, North Border-Pembina, North Border-Walhalla, and Valley-Edinburg. While neither advanced to the state competition, they should be very proud of their accomplishments in this contest. Well done, Bombers! 🎤🐝

Attendance matters! We want to remind you how important school attendance is to the success of our students. We understand that illnesses happen and some appointments during the school day can't be avoided, but we encourage all families to ensure their students get to school most days. It's important, it matters!

Last week, students and staff at DPS participated in the Great Kindness Challenge.

The Great Kindness Challenge, presented by the global nonprofit Kids for Peace, began in 2012 with just three schools in Carlsbad, California, as a way to promote kindness, caring and, connection. Now, it has blossomed into a worldwide movement with over 22 million students in 45,000 schools across all 50 states and 135 countries participating.

All students in grades PK-12 received a kindness checklist and participated in a number of fun kindness activities throughout the week. Check out some of the fun we had!

Today we celebrated Global School Play Day and National Read Aloud Day the best way we know how in Pre-K! 🎉 We kicked things off by reading Crazy Pizza Day, then spent more than our usual hour enjoying uninterrupted playtime. During play, our Pre-K friends helped set up a brand-new Preschool Pizzeria in the dramatic play area and used materials from all around the classroom to create their very own crazy pizzas. So much creativity, teamwork, and learning through play — just the way Pre-K should be! 🍕❤️ #GlobalSchoolPlayDay #NationalReadAloudDay #LearningThroughPlay #PreKFun #CrazyPizzaDay
