The Drayton Bombers made history on Friday night, improving to 4-0 for the first time in program history with a decisive 60-18 victory over the White Shield Warriors.

The game didn’t open smoothly for Drayton. Despite driving into the red zone on their opening possession, the Bombers came up empty after an 8-play march. White Shield capitalized immediately, striking on just their second play with a stunning 77-yard touchdown pass to grab an early lead.

The Bombers answered back quickly. Junior running back #3 Trenten Keena broke off a strong run to set up a 1-yard touchdown connection from quarterback #7 Max Foss-Pokrzywinski to #84 Kyler Lizikowski. From there, the offense began to click, with Keena and Foss-Pokrzywinski leading the charge.

Keena was unstoppable, racking up 244 rushing yards on 16 carries and 5 touchdowns. He also added a receiving score and two successful two-point conversions. Foss-Pokrzywinski complemented the ground game with 3 passing touchdowns, finding Lizikowski, Chey Sehrt, and Keena in the end zone. By halftime, the Warriors trailed 36-18, and the Bombers never looked back, outscoring White Shield 24-0 in the second half.

Defensively, Drayton shut down White Shield’s rushing attack, holding them to -28 yards on the ground. Junior linebacker #8 Carter Johnson led the effort with 4 solo tackles, 5 assists, and a tackle for loss. Keena added to his all-around performance with 3 tackles, 4 assists, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble. The highlight of the fourth quarter came when #10 Shawn Patterson returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown to seal the win.

After the game, Head Coach Foster praised his team’s execution but also pointed to areas for growth: “We really got to have fun this game as we opened up the playbook some. In the future we want to clean up some of these penalties as we had a few big plays called back. It may not have made a big difference in this game, but in big games, these penalties can be problematic.”

With the win, the Bombers enter their bye week undefeated. They’ll return to action for Homecoming on Saturday, September 27th, hosting the Parshall Braves (2-1). Junior High will kick off at 2:00 PM, followed by Varsity at 4:00 PM.

☀️ Ms. Grundstrom's 5th grade class and Dean of Students, Staci Jenson, took a mindfulness nature walk today! The weather was perfect to take learning outside the classroom! Students spent quiet time on the walk paying attention to their breathing, the sounds, the breeze, and the sun on their shoulders. They spotted butterflies, squirrels, and fish and enjoyed touching the Red River! 🎣

🍎 PreK & Kindergarten had an a-peeling day of learning! 🍏 We went apple picking, played a few apple-themed games, and even took turns using the apple peeler. Some brave friends crunched on apple peels, and together we made delicious applesauce! 🥄✨ A fun (and healthy!) way to practice teamwork, patience, and taking turns—plus enjoy the taste of fall! 🍂❤️

The FCS room is buzzing this month!
Mr. Riddle and the 7th-grade class have been bringing in fresh garden vegetables and apples from Mr. Merrill's tree for the kids to practice their cooking, canning, and baking skills. Even Ms. Brigita brought us apples this morning! They'll be making apple crisp and apple pies, and they'll also learn how to make pie crusts with butter and lard to see which turns out best. We want to try canning homemade apple pie filling if the apples keep coming! To top it off, the kitchens are being cleaned to welcome the 1-6 grades next week for their after-school cooking class! They'll be learning all about kitchen and food safety and sanitation. They'll be using the brand-new child-safe kitchen sets that were purchased with donations. We hope to add ten more to the ten we were able to buy. Thank you to everyone for your support!
